Established and respected grower/shipper/packer based in Salinas, California is looking to add to their Human Resources Department.  If you are a detail oriented HR and Safety professional with a passion for agriculture, let’s talk!  This full-time year round position reports to the Director of Human Resources  and ultimately to the partners and offers a competitive salary with excellent benefits.  Direct hire.  This role does require travel to Yuma, AZ during the Winter with possible relocation to Yuma for approximately four months.  A per diem is paid in addition to normal earnings during the relo period.

Responsibilities to include but are not limited to the following:

  • Coordinates all HR training programs, and provides necessary education and materials to supervisors and employees including workshops, manuals, employee handbooks, and standardized reports
  • Maintains all  employee training records
  • Establishes hiring practices and procedures necessary to recruit and hire necessary seasonal workforce
  • Interviews supervisory position candidates; serves as part of the interview team for position finalists
  • Coaches and trains supervisors in their communication, feedback, recognition, and interaction responsibilities with the employees who report to them. Makes certain that the supervisors know how to successfully, ethically, honestly, and legally communicate with employees
  • Conducts investigations when employee complaints or concerns are brought forth
  • Reviews employee appeals through the company complaint procedure
  • Maintains human resource records by designing a filing and retrieval system; keeping past and current records
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state and local employment laws.
  • Records and maintains all OSHA-required data
  • Manages Worker Compensation claims; calling, reporting and following up on open claims
  • Hires seasonal workforce as needed, and aid employees in correctly filling out paperwork
  • Conducts arbitration orientations for all employees when hired on
  • Conducts monthly field safety visit and provides employees health and wellness resources
  • Reviews and makes final edits (per pick sheets) to daily harvest reports prior to printing

Ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years’ experience as a Human Resources/Safety Specialist or Generalist and at least two years in a supervisorial role (preferred but now required) as well as the following skills and abilities (a combination of same may be considered):

  • Outstanding interpersonal relationship building and employee coaching skills
  • Knowledge and experience in employment law, compensation, organizational planning, recruitment, organization development, employee relations, safety, employee engagement, and employee development.  OSHA Certification a plus.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) is REQUIRED.
  • High degree of professionalism and a strong work ethic
