Description
On behalf of West Coast Producer of Organic Specialty Salads; Organic and Conventional Washed and Trimmed Lettuces; and Meal Replacement Salad Kits, we are accepting resumes for the position of Safety and Workers’ Compensation Supervisor. This is a direct hire full-time opportunity offering an excellent benefits package. Position is based in the Salinas Valley, California; however, will require some travel to Yuma, AZ during the Winter growing season for business needs such as orientation, employee accidents, trainings and audits.
Position Summary
Responsible to review, evaluate, and analyze work environments and assist in the design of programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent injury in the plant. Lead all safety efforts to deliver a culture towards our goal of zero injuries and illnesses. Form partnerships across the organization to ensure compliance with all safety policies and regulations and to meet the organization’s business and financial goals. Responsible for working cross functionally with all locations to implement corporate initiatives and strategies and provide guidance for all sites.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for employee safety, including safety programs, systems, policies, training, Federal and State OSHA Compliance and audits.
- Responsible for planning, implementing, and coordinating safety programs to prevent or correct unsafe environmental working conditions. Coordinate and participate in safety performance improvement initiatives.
- Ensure day to day administration of plant safety rules/policies and procedures, Federal and State OSHA compliance and enforcement and other regulations.
- Ensure all new hires, rehires and transferred employees complete the required safety training for their position.
- Reviews safety training programs and facilitates train-the-trainer sessions.
- Lead the plant safety program and drive positive safety culture.
- Lead incident investigations for safety and environmental incidents and participate in management review of all serious incidents.
- Track, report, and analyze safety performance to include root cause analysis, and corrective action planning and execution.
- Manage data collection and analysis of Safety metrics and reports including injury and illness.
- Ensure accurate and timely safety recordkeeping and document management including the submission of periodic reports to regulatory agencies.
- Conduct monthly safety meetings and complete any safety training that is required. Address any safety issues.
- Lead and conduct all new hire and rehire orientations.
- Conduct all monthly safety training and run reports on Alchemy.
- Hold monthly meetings with partner(s) to review Workers Compensation cases
- Manages and administers worker’s compensation claims.
- Serves as a liaison between employee and worker’s comp carrier.
- Work closely with human resources, assist with accident reporting/reports and addressing any questions and issues involving workman’s compensation reporting and procedures.
- Maintain up to date knowledge, regulatory changes, and best practices. • Lead the company’s EHS assessment process, ensuring any material findings are corrected and any systemic causes are addressed and, if appropriate, the learnings are shared across the organization.
- Lead emergency response activities.
- Help manage Process Safety Management program for ammonia refrigeration as appropriate.
- Participate in Process Safety Audits, PHA’s and other elements of Process Safety Management integral to sites’ safety performance.
- Prioritize major hazards and risks across all sites, and ensure actions are taken to mitigate or eliminate risks.
- Travel to Yuma, AZ facility as needed.
About You
You will have the following qualifications (a combination of these listed below may be considered):
- Bi-lingual/Bi-literate English/Spanish is required.
- Holds or is willing to work toward appropriate professional designation; Certified Safety Professional - CSP
- At least 3 years of experience in a manufacturing, safety role or equivalent education/experience, to include experience managing a Process Safety Management Program
- Ability to maintain confidentiality; uses time effectively; attention to detail; well organized with ability to prioritize and be flexible.
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills in order to be able to communicate well with all levels of management and employees. Must have the ability to interface closely with employees, site representatives, supervisors and above.
- Must have knowledge of Safety regulations OSHA, EPA and DOT at the local, state (CA and AZ) and federal levels.
- Experience with Lock Out/Tag Out and GMPs requirements
Education and Experience
- A combination of education and/experience that provides the needed knowledge and skills. Experience in transportation or agriculture is highly desirable.
Estimated Compensation Range: $75,000 to $85,000 Base Salary DOE
